173 Collective · February 2026

Occupying a unique space between gallery and house party, 173 Collective temporarily reimagines the intimacy of a private home as a shared cultural site.

Details that might otherwise seem incidental: Lily’s Dad’s landscape painting in the living room, not formally party of the exhibition yet quietly tracing its creative lineage; a ribbon-draped lamp I coveted before learning it honoured the artist’s grandparents, its value clearly far beyond anything transactional; DJs integrated naturally into the rhythm of the space rather than staged; couches spilling from the living room into the driveway; the perpetual bathroom queue and the conversations it stirred among strangers sardined in the kitchen, our proximity making acknowledgement of one another inevitable, all softened the boundaries between art, domesticity and intimacy.

The informality eased the intimidation and pretence sometimes associated with commercial galleries, allowing people to meet both the art and each other with an unusual and almost tangible openness. It reframed the home itself as an inherently curated, deeply personal space where bookshelves, posters and small trinkets accumulated over time become extensions of identity, offering fleeting glimpses into inner worlds, a form of art in itself.
